World Craps Championship
The World Championship of Craps took place at the Atrium Hotel in Las Vegas on July 22 and 23 and hosted by gambling author, Frank Scoblete. Players competed for a host of prizes and trophies and of course the title of world’s best craps player.
167 professional and amateur players entered, far more than the 32 expected. Participants received dice control lessons beforehand, and instructors provided fun exhibitions of dice control. Well known names such as The Dominator, Pit Boss and Tenpin from the Golden Touch Craps team demonstrated events in a party like atmosphere.
There were nine major event winners, with competitors shooting to achieve specific throw results such as No Sevens. This was where players rolled as many times without a seven appearing.
Other categories included In the Field, Come Out champion, 6 and 8, 4 and 10, Make Your Point, On the Hop, Crapshooter and Hardway championship. 96 players played in each match as well as head to head matches.
Winners were awarded champion status in each event with the ultimate game being for title of World Craps Champion.
The big match was between Linda ‘Lowroller’ Mabry and Howard “rock’n’roller” in the Hardway event. Linda showed the skills of a true professional, with luck as always playing a part, and crowned winner and World Craps Champion.
As it turned out, it was a family affair as Howard “rock’n’roller” was none other than her son. Linda rolled four Hardway numbers to thrash Howard to take out the title.
