What are Buy bets in Craps
A Buy bet is a particular bet made in the game of craps. The player or players bet that a certain number will come up before the dice shows a 7. The numbers that the player should therefore choose from are as follows: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10. The is pretty straightforward and simple to follow. If the point is rolled before 7, then the player wins.
It is said that the buy bet is very similar to that of the place bet, a buy bet, does offer true odds, which are 2 to 1 for numbers 4, 10, 3 to 2, and for numbers 5, 9, and 6 to 5 for the numbers 6 and 8. Although they are true odds, to give the house a true advantage, the house often takes a 5% commission on every bet. This will of course always give the house the advantage.
If however you play craps in a real casino, anywhere in the world, you will pay the commission, which is known in casino terminology as ‘vigorish’, or just ‘vig’ for short.
When you place your bet, say you make a $40 buy bet on a number, you would place $42 on the designated number. The $40 is your buy bet, but the $2 amounts for the casino’s commission. If playing online, then it is done slightly differently. When you place a bet, and you win, the house will return you your winnings less their commission
It should always be remembered that the bet pays true odds, which is great for any player, but you should always bare in mind that the casino will take a commission, a vig, and therefore an advantage. Depending upon the casino you are playing at, some will only make you pay the vig if the bet is winning.
