Sucker Bets in Craps

Playing craps at a casino can be a daunting affair, especially for those new to the game. Craps isn’t a game that is played solo and at the casino you’re surrounded by other players at the table in a somewhat intimidating environment.

That’s why all players want to avoid the embarrassment of what’s known as a sucker bet. That’s the bet that seems to tempt the newcomer due to their exotic name or that they are bets that are simple to understand.

However, what the new player doesn’t understand is that sucker bets are ones that have a high house advantage and the chances of pulling off these bets are extremely low.

The Big 6 and Big 8 bets are examples of these. This is where these numbers are rolled before a 7 but pay 1 to 1. A Place Bet on the 6 or 8 has much better odds.

The actual ‘Craps’ bet has 4 ways to win but 32 ways to lose. The casino has an edge of eleven per cent.

The lure of lucky seven should be avoided too. The Any 7 bet might allow six ways to win, but with thirty ways to lose. This bet and odds are therefore 6 to 1. It makes no sense when the house advantage blows out to sixteen per cent.

Avoid all of these and stick to simple pass or don’t pass the line bets and know your odds. That way you won’t be a sucker when it comes to playing craps.
