Casino Movies

Casinos were once for the rich to flash their cash and heighten their social status. Movies such as James Bond’s 2006 Casino Royale, Diamonds are Forever and the infamous Casino featuring Robert Di Niro were all associated with power, money and glamour. They reflect this image greatly, however, to many viewers this is not a world they can relate to.

Yet recent movies have given the more younger and ambitious generation an insight into the modern day casino and have also provided a brief look into many strategies within table games. This has given casinos a boost of new visitors who have discovered new ways in which to play.

The Grand, starring Woody Harrison, provided an element of realism to the game of Poker at a time when the game was proving to be a massive hit with online gaming sites. The film is based on a character attempting to win money for a purpose other than status and respect. The Grand has no element of glamour like many of the older movies did, which is more realistic to today’s viewer. The main character was to take part in a 10 million dollar poker tournament which was televised. Many Poker tournaments are now televised due to regular citizens winning due to their skills.

The movie 21 is very interesting. Kevin Spacey is the main character and teaches a group of students how to count cards when playing Blackjack. This is a technique many have mastered and takes tremendous skill and focus, and it also sees players win most of the time. However, this is to many casino’s dismay and is featured within the movie. It is very intriguing to watch the youth of today apply their mathematical knowledge to something that can quickly change their finances for the better.
